Question 1

My travertine looks dull and worn. Can it be brought back?

Accepted Answer

Usually, yes. Travertine dulls because the surface wears and etches, not because the stone is done. We hone past the wear, then polish it back to the finish you want, from a soft matte to a gloss.

Question 2

There are holes and pits opening up in my travertine. Is that normal?

Accepted Answer

Travertine is a naturally holey stone. The factory fill works loose over time and the holes open up. We fill them to match and refinish the surface so the floor reads as one piece again. Fill is not forever. Over the years some of it works loose again, and it can be topped up.

Question 3

Can you fix a travertine shower with scale and soap scum?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Kansas City water is hard, and travertine showers take it every day. We strip the scale and soap scum off the stone without damaging it, then seal it.

Question 4

How much does travertine cleaning or restoration cost?

Accepted Answer

Every floor is quoted by the job, because the condition of the stone decides the work. Text photos and a rough size to (913) 269-2103 and we quote the job from them.

Question 5

How long does travertine restoration take?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the size and condition of the stone. You get the schedule with the quote.

Question 6

Should my travertine be polished or honed?

Accepted Answer

That is a finish choice, not a quality choice. Honed is the soft, low-sheen look; polished is the gloss. We can take the same stone to either, and we will show you samples on your own floor before committing.

Question 7

Do you seal travertine after cleaning or polishing?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Travertine is porous, so an unsealed floor soaks in spills and traffic. Sealing slows staining. Traffic and acids still wear the finish over time, and it can be re-honed.
